The Sheboygan Area School District is proposing a plan to rebuild Urban and Farnsworth Middle Schools. The buildings are approaching 100 years old, and a facilities study identified significant challenges at both schools. In early May, a survey with more information about the proposal will be delivered to school district resident mailboxes.

During the planning phase, the Sheboygan Area School District took a proactive approach to initiate a traffic study that assessed the potential impact of increased traffic that may arise due to the proposed rebuilding of Urban Middle School on Najacht and Mill Roads. 

The independent traffic impact study was prepared by professional engineers certified by the Wisconsin Department of Transportation from Traffic Analysis & Design, Inc (TADI), a firm in Cedarburg, WI.

"One question we have received pertains to the proposed location for rebuilding Urban Middle School," said Seth Harvatine, Superintendent of Schools. "We studied the donated North 15th Street property, but it is not a viable school site due to its proximity to industrial property, and it would be more expensive to build there due to wetlands and a high water table."

Harvatine added, "While we investigated other potential sites, the Najacht and Mill Roads location is the only feasible location due to its size, ample green space, and proximity to the current school."

The findings of this study will be shared with the community on Monday, May 6, at 6:00 p.m. in the auditorium at Urban Middle School. Representatives from Traffic Analysis & Design, Inc. (TADI) will present the traffic data and findings. Following the presentation, attendees can submit questions to be answered that evening. Representatives from Bray Architects and Sheboygan Area School District will also be present.

After the public presentation, the report and findings will be posted on the Sheboygan Area School District website at www.sheboygan.k12.wi.us/referendum for anyone unable to attend the meeting.
